Dean K. Paulsen, 77 of Temple, Texas peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, April 27, 2024, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Temple, Texas, with visitation and rosary immediately prior to service at 1 pm. Dean will be interred at St. Luke Columbarium.
Dean was born June 18, 1946, in Red Wing, Minnesota to Maurice D. and Orpha (Kimball) Paulsen. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1964 and the University of North Dakota in 1969, with a B.S. in Industrial Technology.
Dean married Joan Lohstreter of Mandan, North Dakota on August 9, 1969, where they lived for several years. He taught Industrial Arts at Mandan Senior High School for 3 years before moving into the industry where he worked for several years as a production manager and engineer at Corral Sales and Concord, Inc. in Fargo, North Dakota. In 1989, he moved to the Lubbock and San Angelo, Texas area where he worked for Grinnell Fire Systems, Safe Car, Lighthouse for the Blind, and Fixture Concepts Inc., until finally teaching Industrial Production Technology at Howard College in San Angelo, Texas. He retired in Temple, Texas in 2014.
Dean belonged to the Lions Club and is a lifetime member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, and RC airplanes.
Dean is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan; 3 children, Michelle M. Wheeler (Christopher) of San Antonio, Texas, Mark E. Paulsen (Heather) of Huntsville, Texas, and Scott M. Paulsen (Jayme) of Robinson, Texas; and 6 grandchildren, Cadean, Bailey, Tyler, Jaxen, Bethany, and McKenzie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Kellogg; and brother, Morrie Paulsen.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made in his name to St. Joseph Indian School, P.O. Box 300, Chamberlain, SD 57325.
