Darrell was born in Princeton, Indiana on July 12, 1942 to Harold Chandler and Margaret Northener Chandler. He graduated from Winslow High School in Winslow, Indiana and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He married his high school sweetheart August 25, 1962. Darrell was a working cowboy for twenty years on the Zane's Ranch and the Goodnight Ranch. He also worked at Wilson Art and Service Merchandise, and retired from Sam's Club, where he was a greeter. Darrell's greatest joy was his family - his children, grandchildren, and his great-granddaughter. He loved country-western music, western movies, and What-a-Burger's. Darrell had a gift for talking and for caring for people. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Temple and handed out the bulletins every Sunday morning.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of 52 years; a son, Carl Chandler of Temple; daughters Dara Chandler of Austin and Cindy and husband Ernest Gregg of Elgin; two grand-daughters, Rebekah Chandler of Brownwood and Emily Gregg of Elgin; and great-granddaughter Hannah Sears of Brownwood.
Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, June 1 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Darrell's honor may be made to the Servants for Christ Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Temple (8015 W. Adams, Temple Texas 76502). Proceeds will be donated to Feed My Sheep.
