Curtis Noland Strong, Sr., 97, of Salado, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at a local living center. He was born November 16, 1910 to Earnest Y. and Helen Guater Strong in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1932, he married Willie Mae Hood in Goliad, Texas.

He served his country over thirty years in the United States Air Force. He served during WWII and helped build landing airstrips near Omaha Beach shortly after the invasion. He was an Aircraft Maintenance Technician and was stationed in San Antonio when groundbreaking took place for Randolph Air Force Base. During his military career he was awarded the Air Force Longevity Service Award w1 Silver 1 Bronze OLC. He was also a life member of the Perfect Union Masonic Lodge in San Antonio. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife. He is survived by his son, Curtis N. Strong, Jr. of Salado; three grandsons and three great granddaughters.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside service with military honors will be held 2:15 p.m. Monday, February 4 at Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
