Cecil Hoyt Shepherd “Shep” passed away September 14, 2019. He was born in Fort Smith Arkansas on June 20, 1938 and was predeceased by his wife Martha A. Shepherd and survived by many loving family members that include his 2 children – Marceil Shepherd, Robert Shepherd and Robert’s wife Cheryl. His sister, Mary Nell Bach, 6 grandchildren—Jonathon Hughes, Kati Schwappach, Christopher Shepherd, Joshua Shepherd, Erin Shepherd, and Kayla Shepherd, 3 great grandchildren—Kylei Hughes, Zoey Hughes, Everest Shepherd, and many other relatives and friends.
Shep is well known and will be remembered for his story telling abilities and his sense of humor. He was a bit of a wild child growing up in Fort Smith, Arkansas but his adventures made for a good story and he had a way of weaving in southern expressions that made everyone laugh. His wild ways landing him in the army and eventually led him to his wife of more than 40 years, Martha Shepherd, whom he adored and finally settled down and married. While they met in Michigan, the army moved them to several places to include TX, AR, AZ, NJ, MI, Germany, and NY. After 20 years of moving around, they decided to make NM their retirement home where they spent the rest of their years together. Years after he lost his wife, Shep’s health took a turn and we decided he should be closer to family and he moved to Temple Texas were he eventually passed away.
In keeping with his wishes, there is no funeral or memorial service planned but we ask that you keep him close in your heart, and if you want to honor his life by way of donation, Shep was a supporter of the Wounded Warriors Program.
