On Monday, March 11, 2024, Carroll Lee Thompson was called home by the Lord, after many years of service to family and others. A memorial service in his honor will be held at 2 pm Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
Carroll was born on March 7, 1933, in Warren County, Indiana to Chester Wayne and Lola Lavon (Baird) Thompson. He was one of 6 children: 4 boys and 2 girls. He married Grace Arlene Kell on November 5, 1953; they had 6 children, 5 boys and one girl. Carroll served in the Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955. After returning from active duty, he worked as a mechanic for 14 years in Danville, IL, then became partners in the business for 16 more years. They moved to Texas in 1986, where he worked for the City of Hillsboro for 10 years before he retired. In 1995, Carroll began preaching at First Christian Church in McGregor as a licensed minister for 9 years until it closed. After losing his wife, he moved to Temple to be closer to his daughter, granddaughter, and grandkids in 2011.
Carroll is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Lola (Baird) Thompson; grandparents, Harley Thompson and Myrtle Barnes; grandparents, Harlan and Myla Baird; three brothers, Kenneth Eugene Thompson, Harold Dwain Thompson, and Bill Thompson; two sisters, Judy Bland, and Janet Wright; one son, Terry Thompson; and one daughter, Susan West.
Survivors include four sons, Charles Thompson of North Carolina, Brian Thompson of California, Craig Thompson of Yellowstone National Park, WY, and Kevin Thompson; granddaughter, Kristin Morgan (Johnathan) of Rogers; grandson, Andrew Dodson; and great grandchildren, Tyler Morgan, Brittany Morgan, and Camryn Vondergroeben.
