Carl Owen Amonett, 54, of Academy, formerly of Nacogdoches and Petersburg, TX died Saturday, October 16, 2010 in Temple.
Carl was born October 11, 1956 to Glen and Edith Sinclair Amonett in Lake Jackson. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1982 with a Masters Degree in Forestry. At this time he began his career as a soil conservationist in Kountze for the U. S. Department of Agriculture with the Natural Resources Conversavation Service. From 1987 to 2000, he worked in Center as district conservationist. From 2000 on, he worked in Temple for Blackland Research Center as a member of the Water Resources Assessment Team. In 2007 he was selected as Professional Employee of the Year. He served more than 28 years with the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Carl was a member of First Baptist Church in Academy.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Edith Amonett and father and mother inlaw, Herman and Geraldine Russell of Nacogdoches.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Russell Amonett of Academy son, Christopher Amonett of Dallas daughter, Stacy Amonett of Denton and Sarah Amonett of Academy brother, John Amonett of California sisters, Wendy Fulton of Shreveport, LA and Yvonne Thomas of Kent, OH brothers and sisters inlaw, Mike Russell and wife, Donna, Johnny Russell and wife, Sharon, Ricky Russell and wife, Brianne, and Angela Russell all of Nacogdoches and Rex Russell and wife, Tammy of Henderson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 58 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 21st at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple with Reverend Mark Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Valley Cemetery in Little River.

Carl had a lifelong love of seeking knowledge and adventure. His passions were motorcycling, hiking, running and recently, sailing.
