Betty Jean Broughton

Memorial services for Betty Broughton, 95, of Temple, will be 11 am Thursday, September 28 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.  Mrs. Broughton passed away Monday, September 25 in Temple.

Mrs. Broughton was born April 5, 1928, in Temple, Texas to Ervin Vince Cawthron and Jean Casler Kennedy Cawthron.  Betty was a lifelong resident of Temple and graduated from Temple High School.  She married James William Broughton in 1947 and they were happily married until his death in 1976.  Betty was a member of First Christian Church and was recently honored as the longest living church member.  She retired from the Sante Fe Credit Union in 1990 after helping many people buy a car…she truly loved her job.  Betty was an avid gardener, but was really best at being a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Mother-in-Law.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Broughton, and her sister, Margaret Teague.  She is survived by her son, W. E. “Bill” Broughton; daughters, JimAnn Broughton and Kathleen Broughton; grandchildren, Doctor James E. Bridges (Jeb), Kayla B. Broughton, and Shannon M. Broughton; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, James, and Ervin Bridges.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
