Bertha Thompson

February 28, 1927 — June 1, 2012

Bertha G. Thompson, 85, of Troy, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 1, 2012, while at her home. She was born to Oscar B. Graham and Susie Senter Graham in Zavalla, Texas, on February 28, 1927.

Bertha came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as a very young child and served Him faithfully her entire life. After graduating as Salutatorian from Zavalla High School in 1944, she moved to Temple. On December 23, 1955, she married her husband J.C. Thompson, Sr. She worked as a medical secretary at the Olin Teague Veterans Hospital for 22 years and then became a stayathome mother and homemaker.

Though she married a little later in life at 28, she had longed to be a mother and with her husband raised three children of whom she was very proud. Her entire focus was on being a good wife, raising her children well, and serving in her church as a Sunday School teacher, church secretary, and in any other way she could. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God of Temple for over 20 years and enjoyed being an active member of the Keenager group there. Her greatest pride and joy was her family which grew to include five grandchildren and two greatgranddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.C. Thompson, Sr. brother Bertis Graham and sisters: Lela Colwell and Audrey Nerren.

She is survived by her sons: J.C. Thompson, Jr., of Roans Prairie, Texas, and Mark Thompson of Iola, Texas daughter Lisa Thompson of Troy brothers: O.B. Graham, Jr., Stewart Graham, and Larry G. Graham all of Temple sister Sharon Hilliard of Little River five grandchildren: Ashlyn Pimentel, Jake Thompson, Tara Thompson, Caitlyn Thompson, and Connor Thompson and two greatgrandchildren: Madison Pimentel and Isabella Pimentel.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, June 3, at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple from 4:006:00 pm. Services will be Monday, June 4, at 10:00 am at HarperTalasek Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elwin Johnston officiating. Graveside service and burial to follow at Bellwood Memorial Park of Temple.
