Bertha Marie Brown, 92, of Belton, passed away at a local nursing home June 28, 2012. Services will be Monday, July 2, 2012 10 am at Bellwood Memorial Park of Temple. Visitation is Sunday July 1, 2012 at the Harper Talasek Chapel Temple from 24pm.
Bertha was born January 10, 1920 in Freestone County, Tx to Riley M. Alewine and Arniel Samford. She finished high school in 1939 and married the love of her life, Ernest Brown in 1940. Bertha worked as a hair dresser for Peacock Beauty Shop for 8 years and for Loves Salon of Beauty for 12 years before retiring in 1980. She was a great and loving grandmother, mother, and wife, and was loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest on August 23, 2008, brothers Charles Alewine, Emery Alewine and Wilmer Alewine, sisters Nola Scott, Oda Herring and Jimmy Taylor.
She is survived by her loving children daughters Vivian Cardwell and husband Bill of Belton, Tx, Kazel Cheek and husband David of Las Cruces, Nm., and son, Jerry Brown and wife Muriel of Temple,Tx, sisters Juliette Bradley of Mexia, Tx, Effie Robinson of Streetman, Tx , 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 8 greatgreat grandchildren and a dear host of friends.
The family would like to formally thank the staff of Stoney Brook Assisted Living of Belton and Odyssey Hospice for their loving care. Harper Talasek Funeral Home Temple in charge of arrangements.
