Bernice A. Barnett, 88, of Temple, passed away after a long illness August 22, 2015 at Heritage Home Retreat in Humble, Texas. A chapel service will be Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple at 12:00 pm.
Bernice was born to Thomas and Clara Ashley on April 26, 1927 in Taylor, Texas. She grew up in Taylor, as a young adult driving a taxi during WWll. She married Melvin Barnett on September 29, 1954. They were married 58 years and lived together until Melvin's death at 91 August 20, 2012. Throughout her life Bernice held positions as a waitress, caregiver in a nursing home, school cafeteria cook and manager of Marigold Milk Stand and a local retail store. She lived with her daughter Joy in Kingwood, Texas from 2013 until her passing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, a son Don Hilton, her parents and a brother, Floyd Ashley. She is survived by her loving children Peggy Adcox and husband, Don of Temple, Texas; Jean Gaul and husband, Kenny of Carrollton, Texas, and Joy Barnett of Kingwood, Texas, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many dear friends. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 6 - 8 pm at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
