Benito H. Acevedo, 89, of Temple passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013 at his home. Visitation will be held from 5:307:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple, with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m., with Father Cletus Ranjan officiating. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Temple.
Mr. Acevedo was born July 24, 1923 in Hebronville, Texas to Alfredo and Erlinda Hinojosa Acevedo. He married Guadalupe Yepez in 1953 and they moved to Temple in 1954. He served in the United States Army, where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with six bronze service stars, the Distinguished Unit Emblem, the UN Service Medal, the Presidents Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Mr. Acevedo was a lifelong resident of Temple and was a cook at the VA Hospital in Temple. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW and the Pioneer Club.
Mr. Acevedo was preceded in death by his parents his wife, Guadalupe his brother, Atanasio Acevedo and a sister, Anjelita Botello.
He is survived by his sister, Juanita Avila of Temple a daughter, Maria Simpson of Temple a son, Benito Acevedo, Jr. of Austin six grandchildren, and 6 greatgrandchildren.
