Barbara was born in Eureka, Kansas the 7th of 9 children to William Earl and Mary Alice Butts. After relocating to Carrollton Texas, she met and married her high school sweetheart Archie G. Thompson on June 28th 1953. Together for 58 years they raised 3 children building a life filled with faith, family and love.

In June 1978 the family moved to Troy, TX. They worked together building the company American Fire & Safety of Temple where their children and various family members also were employed. Barbara loved the office work of the business, however, her real passion was the first aid department. She truly enjoyed the van service she shared with her daughter, Teresa, where she could interact with the clients, taking care of their needs.

She was an active member of the Troy United Methodist Church since 1978 until health became an issue.

Both Barbara and Archie loved to travel and did so whenever they could. They often said the best trips were when the entire family could be included. After Archie passed away in February 2011, she would travel with her 2 daughters, daughter-in law and often a granddaughter. Many memories are left behind of those times together.

She leaves behind her children Teresa Bass and Robert of Bryan TX, David Thompson and Gigi of Troy, TX and Cheryl Sanders, widow of Ricky, Temple, TX., 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara is also survived by her brother-in-law Jerry Thompson of Ft. Worth, TX, sister Arlene Boyer of the Woodlands, TX and sister Katherine Maedgen of Troy, TX who shared her home and care for the past 8 years.

A viewing will be offered on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 3pm at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Temple TX with services to follow at 4pm.
