Barbara Bakke

Services for Barbara Jeanne Bakke, 90, of Temple will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 6 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Chaplin Bruce Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Barbara J. Bakke died on Monday, July 3, 2017, at a local care facility.

Barbara Jeanne Bakke was born on November 26, 1926 to Willie Houston Robinson and Alice Irene Sutton in Temple, Texas. Barbara graduated from Temple High School in 1943. She married the love of her life I.J. Bakke, Jr. in 1946. She worked as a secretary to the General Superintendent of the Santa Fe Railroad in Temple. She became a homemaker when they began their family in 1947, with a second child born in 1953. Barbara always put her family first. She was a proud mother and grandmother. She spent her vacations traveling and camping. She left behind the life lesson of being punctual. She was always early to events. She was always into fashion and maintaining her appearance. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Temple for over 70 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 39 years, and a sister, Billie Zimmerman.

Survivors include her son, Chris Bakke and wife Sandra; daughter, Kay Haydon and husband John; five grandchildren, Seth Bakke and wife Becky, Luke Bakke and wife Michelle, Hannah Bakke, Katy Haydon, John Ross Haydon; and four great grandchildren, Leif, Lily, Ethan, and Landon Bakke.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
