Anton C. Straka , 86, of Temple died Sunday, September 20, 2009.brServices will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Corn Hill with Father Emilian Foltyn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.brMr. Straka was born August 15, 1923 to Steve and Annie Palousek Straka in Granger. He was inducted into the US Army on August 4, 1944. He did basic training at Fort Hood. His classification was Rifleman 745, Marksman M1 Rifle 30 Caliber. His destination was the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He served in Company F, 152nd Infantry. He served in active duty in Manila, Luzon and the Southern Philippines. He was wounded in combat in February 1945 and received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart. He was discharged from Brooks Convalescent Hospital, San Antonio, October 17th, 1945. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Temple. He worked at Artco-Bell Corporation for 27 years until his retirement in 1988.brOn February 3, 1995, Anton was preceded in death by the love of his life for 49 years, his wife, Marie Catherine Lefner Straka. brHe is survived by his children; Patricia Hagen of Spring, Robert Straka and wife, Nancy of Temple, Elizabeth Heuermann and husband, Emery of Spring, Barbara Tucker and husband, Ralph of Breckenridge and Eugene Straka and wife , Debbie of Katy; sister, Bernice Schwertner and husband, William of Jarrell; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.brThe family of Anton C.
