Services for Anton William Machalek, 97, of Temple will be 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Seaton Brethren Church with Pastor Joe Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in Seaton Cemetery in Seaton.
Mr. Machalek died Wednesday, July 6, at a local hospital.
Anton William Machalek was born August 9, 1918 in the Oenaville - Lost Prairie community in Bell County to Joseph Machalek and Johana Stastny Machalek. He was baptized in the Old Seaton Brethren Church and spent his childhood in the Lost Prairie community. Anton married Martha Alice Sodek on April 19, 1939. They operated the Ratibor Grocery Store until moving to Dallas for a short time. Upon their return to Temple, Anton was employed by Swift & Company. He joined the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in the South Pacific in the 67th Ordinance Battalion. Upon returning from service, Anton operated the Friendship Grocery Store and the Parkview Grocery Store. After selling these businesses, he worked for Pure Milk Company, where he worked for twenty years prior to his retirement.
Anton was a lifetime member of Seaton Brethren Church. He served on the Board of Elders for many years, was Sunday school superintendent, assistant teacher, and organized the Men's Brotherhood.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Martha; daughter, Pamela Rae Hoelscher; daughter-in-law, Faye Machalek; five sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include sons, William Joe Machalek and Russell Wayne Machalek and wife Natalie; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Seaton Brethren Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anton's memory may be made to Seaton Brethren Church Building Fund, 12561 State Highway 53, Temple, 76501.
