Anna Grimme

Ann Grimme was a kind and brave woman who faced and overcame adversity but was never defined by it. An “I love you” or a warm hug with her could make everything feel right.

Ann was born in Ausbach (Hohenroda), Hessen, Germany at the start of WWII. She grew up within walking distance of what became the western side of the West/East German Border Wall. She saw families split apart by the Wall, including her own father’s family.

In the early 1960’s, Ann immigrated to the United States as a young woman and wife of an American soldier. She taught herself fluent English by immersing herself in American culture. She was proud of becoming an American citizen and continued her education in the United States. She enjoyed math so much that she even did her taxes in pen.

After living in various places, Ann moved to Copperas Cove, Texas in 1974 where she spoke English at home to help her two children with school. She was a long time Copperas Cove resident who became a familiar face serving the community as a Pharmacy Technician at Baggett Drug Company for many years.

Ann voraciously read, especially mysteries, crime, and history – in both English and German. She had a particular interest in James Bond movies and the X-Files TV show.

In addition, Ann loved attending fine arts performances of the ballet, opera, plays, and musicals, including Phantom of the Opera, as well as community theater and CTC galas. She enjoyed dressing in elegant gowns for the events.

Ann cruised to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Maine many times, enjoying cruise dining, dancing, and port tours. She even parasailed which thrilled her immensely. She loved nature, especially the graceful hummingbirds in her own backyard.

Ann had a particular talent for sewing and knitting; personally tailoring clothes for herself, her children, and barbie dolls. She perfected her sewing talent to such an extent that the clothes appeared better than store bought. She baked Christmas cookies, Zwetschgenkuchen (German plum cake) and other delicious items enjoyed with friends and family.

For several years, Ann participated in Relay for Life benefiting cancer survivors.

Survivors include her daughter Sharon Lynn Albany, son David John Grimme and his wife Joyce, grandson Conrad, two sisters Elisabeth Tabbert and Margarethe Kutzer, and their families. She loved her family, and they loved her too. She is deeply missed by her loving children, grandchild, and other family.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date with arrangements entrusted to Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
