Marine Veteran, Alva Henri “A.C.” Cockrell, died suddenly at his residence on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the age of 81. Graveside services will be held at 3 pm Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
A.C. was born on September 11, 1941, to John H. Cockrell & Alberta H. Hancock Cockrell in Temple, Texas. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His experience in the Marines played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Marines taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause larger than himself. He would often explain to loved ones how these values contributed to his success and the raising of his children and grandchildren. A.C. was such an amazing man, and you knew his presence just by the sound of his infectious laugh. When you heard him laugh you couldn’t help but laugh right along with him, even if you didn’t know what he was laughing about. He loved that each time a story was told, there was a twist and drama added to it. He would laugh which made everyone around him laugh. He was all about his family and enjoying their presence when we were all around. He will be greatly missed.
A.C. is preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Martin; and two brothers, Merl R. Cockrell, and Orville D. Cockrell.
Among those left to honor and cherish his memories are his sons, Roy Alexander Moore of Temple, Charles Alva Pool of Temple, and Marcus Cobb of Waco. His legacy will live on through his 2 grandchildren, Andre Martin, and Jermaine Martin; and his 7 great-grandchildren.
Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
