Alma Baily Ater, 82 of Little River, and formerly of West Virginia, passed away Friday, September 18, 2009 in a local hospital. Services will be held at a later date in West Virginia.

Alma Bailey Ater was born August 13, 1927 to Oscar J. and Tellurian Dawn Peters Smedley in Killarney, West Virginia. She worked for over 20 years as a school teacher. She taught grades 7-12 in both Mingo County and Cabell County, West Virginia. Mrs. Ater was a lifetime member of the NEA. She was also a member of the Fellowship Bapist Church in Barboursville, West Virginia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands; Wilmer Bailey and Francis Ater, step-sons; Wilmer Thomas Bailey, Jr., and James Douglas Bailey, and 6 brothers.

Survivors include: son Jeffery David Bailey and wife Cindy of Little River, daughter-in-law, Margaret Bailey, brother, Harold Smedley and wife Mickey of Belton, 3 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
