Alfonso Rangel Martinez, Jr., 80 of Temple, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019 at a local nursing facility. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Thursday, July 25, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Temple. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
Alfonso was born November 21, 1938 to Alfonso Martinez, Sr. and Simona Rangel Martinez in Falls County, Texas. He proudly served in the National Guard. Alfonso was also a pitcher and coach for Los Amigos softball team and a long-time member of LULAC Council 4746. Alfonso was a Santa Fe Railroad Union Member and a member of the Greyhound Association, both for 40 years.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughters, Sylvia Guillen, Patricia Sabedra, Ernestina Duncan, Rita Ramos, and Amy Martinez; brothers, Basilio Martinez, Joe Albert Martinez Sr., Jesse Ray Martinez, David Martinez, and Andy Martinez; sisters, Mary Helen Jimenez, Susan Sedillo, and Virginia Martinez; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful nursing staff at Creekside Terrace for all their love and support through this time.

A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, 500 W. Barton Ave.
