Mass Services for Alejandro M. Rivera Sr., 92, of Temple will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 8th, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Mr. Rivera died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
Alejandro M. Rivera was born May 25, 1924 in Rogers, Texas to Marcelino L. Rivera and Lorenza Monreal Rivera. Mr. Rivera was one of 5 children. He was raised on the family farm and enjoyed playing baseball. In 1944 he joined the U.S. Army and served as an infantryman. In 1947 he married Isabel Rodriguez in Cameron, Texas and together they started their family and eventually settled in Temple. Mr. Rivera enjoyed raising his livestock, cooking Sunday breakfast, listening and dancing to Tejano music, occasionally he was seen at the local H.E.B. He is a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A life lesson from those who knew him would say "work hard and be honest". He was a devout Catholic, who loved his family and was respected my many people.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years,; six sons, Jose Antonio Rivera, Alejandro Rivera Jr and wife Mary Beth, Thomas Rivera, Pablo Rivera and wife Daisy, Edward Rivera, William Rivera; three daughters, RoseMary Perez, Lucia Vasquez and husband Raymond, Lora Ann Farbo and husband Craig; two sisters, Maria Rivera, Ruth Hernandez, twenty-one grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jose M. Rivera and a sister Guadalupe Flores.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 7th from 5:00-8:00 pm with the rosary recited at 7:00 pm at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Temple.
